Grand Theft Auto VI, or GTA 6, has entered the home stretch for one of the most anticipated releases in the video game industry. Rockstar Games keeps the launch set for November 19, 2026, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. With pre-orders open since June 25, the developer intensified its campaign and published the game’s most detailed material to date.
Released on August 27, the video Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look is 26 minutes and 48 seconds long. According to Rockstar, all footage was captured in-game on a PlayStation 5. The content offers a broad look at Vice City, main characters Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos, and the various regions of the fictional state of Leonida.
What the new GTA 6 video reveals
The showcase displays a denser open world with heavy vehicle and pedestrian traffic, interior environments, beaches, highways, swampy areas, and towns of various sizes. It also features chases, gunfights, robberies, boats, aircraft, and activities spread across the map. More than just a sequence of cinematic cutscenes, the video aims to demonstrate how these systems function in-game.
Vice City remains the setting’s most recognizable hub, with beaches, high-rises, nightlife, and a heavy Florida influence. Leonida, however, goes beyond the metropolis. Rockstar confirmed regions such as Leonida Keys, Port Gellhorn, Grassrivers, Ambrosia, and Mount Kalaga National Park, broadening the variety between urban, coastal, and natural areas.
Jason and Lucia share the lead roles
The story follows Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos. Jason served in the Army and ended up working for local drug traffickers in the Leonida islands. Lucia left prison determined to turn her life around, but follows a plan that puts her back at the center of criminal activities. When a seemingly simple heist goes wrong, the two find themselves entangled in a state-wide conspiracy.
The relationship between the protagonists emerges as the central pillar of the narrative. Official material presents them as partners who must trust each other to survive, while simultaneously seeking money and a way out of the situation they fell into. Rockstar also revealed characters connected to crime, music, and local nightlife, such as Cal Hampton, Boobie Ike, Dre’Quan Priest, Raul Bautista, and Brian Heder.

Record pre-orders and industry expectations
Early demand highlights the massive commercial scale of the release. In August, Take-Two Interactive, Rockstar’s parent company, described pre-order volume as unprecedented for the publisher. At the same time, the company maintained caution, reminding that pre-orders can be canceled and that definitive performance will only be known after launch.
Interest is driven by the track record of GTA V, released in 2013. According to data released by Take-Two and reported by Reuters, the previous title surpassed 230 million units sold. This reach has made GTA 6 a release capable of influencing release schedules, financial projections, and strategies across other companies in the industry.
Which platforms will GTA 6 be released on?
As of September 11, 2026, Rockstar has confirmed GTA 6 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The official page makes no mention of a PC version or previous-generation consoles. Therefore, any PC release date circulating outside official channels should be treated as speculation.
