Electric bicycles are becoming connected vehicles. In June 2026, Bosch presented a set of components for urban e-bikes that combines a hub motor, compact battery, digital controls, and location features. Bicycle manufacturers will be able to integrate these parts into compatible models.
Discreet motor with adjustable assistance
The highlight is the Hub Line, Bosch’s first hub motor. Installed on the rear wheel, it weighs approximately 2.3 kg and delivers up to 45 Nm of torque and 400 W of maximum power, according to the manufacturer. Electric assistance reaches up to 25 km/h in the configuration reported by Bosch.
The system uses sensors to adapt motor assistance to pedaling. In Auto mode, the intensity of the assistance changes according to the usage situation. Through the eBike Flow app, riders can also adjust riding modes, plan routes, and receive software updates, provided the model offers the corresponding functions.
Compact battery and variable range
To accompany the urban motor, Bosch presented the PowerTube 360, an integrated 360 Wh battery. The company estimates a range of around 89 kilometers for an urban e-bike equipped with the Hub Line and this battery in Eco mode. It is a test estimate: route, terrain, load, and assistance level influence the actual distance.
The line announced in June also includes the Intuvia 200 display, featuring customizable screens and information, and a compact controller with USB-C charging. These components aim to gather essential trip data without taking up too much space on the handlebars.
App tracking requires equipment and subscription
Digital protection goes beyond disabling motor assistance when the bicycle is turned off. With the optional ConnectModule and a paid subscription to the Flow+ service, owners can receive alarm features and track the e-bike’s location in the app. The module version announced in 2026 was designed to help search even in places where GPS signal is limited, according to Bosch.
This does not mean that every electric bicycle will have tracking. The presence of the module, compatibility with other components, and feature availability depend on the configuration adopted by the brand. For those planning to use the bike for daily commutes, it is worth checking exactly which features are included in the chosen model.
The news illustrates a shift in the sector: beyond motor and battery, software, navigation, and protection have become part of the riding experience. The practical benefit depends on how well these features are integrated into the bicycle and how they perform under real-world usage conditions.
